Technology can be key to enabling older adults to live independently, safely, and actively—even when they need care or support.
At the Institute for Health, Aging, Work, and Technology, we combine technical expertise with research in the social and health sciences to develop technological innovations that meet real user needs.
➡ Human-centered design
➡ Participatory testing
➡ Real-life everyday contexts
Society is aging—and with it, the need for support, care, and assistance with daily life is growing. At the same time, technology is advancing rapidly. This includes intelligent assistance systems, smart-home solutions, as well as robotics and sensor technology
These technologies have great potential to improve quality of life, safety, and social participation in old age—but only if they are truly user-friendly and designed to meet people’s needs.
That is exactly what GAT does: We place people at the center of technological development and examine how digital systems function in everyday life, how they are adopted, and how they promote health.
