History of the institute

The Zittau/Görlitz University of Applied Sciences has set itself the goal of institutionalizing application-oriented research on issues related to aging, health, and technical support in a research institute. On November 2, 2016, the constituent meeting of the “Health, Aging, and Technology” (GAT) research institute took place in Görlitz.
Approximately 25 professors and staff members of the university participated in the constituent meeting in Görlitz, including the university management represented by the rector, the vice-rector for research, and the chancellor.
The institute's main tasks include research in the aforementioned areas, analyses of the current situation, and the generation of fields of action, as well as cooperation with relevant partners in the field. The institute's interdisciplinary approach also includes the transfer of knowledge to and from partners in business, politics, administration, and civil society in Germany and abroad.
Prof. Dr. Hoff was unanimously elected as director of the institute; Prof. Dr. Stöbel-Richter and Prof. Dr. Lässig were equally unanimously elected as deputy directors.

Interdisciplinary cooperation

Ten university lecturers and five staff members from four faculties (social sciences, management and cultural studies, electrical engineering and computer science, and economics) decided to become members of GAT during the constituent meeting.

The Institute for Health, Aging, Work, and Technology welcomes collaboration with colleagues from all faculties and institutes at the university, as well as with interested partners from Upper Lusatia and beyond, and is always open to discussions with interested parties.

For example, close cooperation between the two institutes in the field of research was agreed with the director of the Institute for Process Technology, Process Automation, and Measurement Technology (IPM), Prof. Dr. Alexander Kratzsch.
